Springbok Casino Review Jump to comments

Springbok Casino is a favorite online gaming site of many in South Africa. They accept deposits and payout exclusively in ZAR - the entire site is designed with a South African feel and flavor.

No matter where you live, you might be familiar with the brand name - the operation is in the news a lot heralding the release of the newest RTG/SpinLogic slots. You may also see others talking about them whether it is about being voted the "best casino in SA for 2020", "best for high rollers" or you may see reports on other accolades they have received.

The website and customer support are available in English as well as Afrikaans. Look for the full complement of SpinLogic/RTG slots, gaming tables, and card games, as well as newly revamped video poker for mobile or desktop play.

While it could change, they are currently offering a free test drive just for completing the free registration or you can go straight to the welcome package to boost your chances right out of the gate.

Owned by Quadgreen N.V., the company is legally related to Enneagon Ltd., of Great Britain (Company No. 11559746), their payment processor. While we don't find a Curacao licensing seal on the site, the "N.V." designation of Quadgreen means the public limited liability company (Naamloze Vennootschap) is legally incorporated in the Netherlands or in a country that uses Dutch law, such as Curacao.

The site makes the claim of a Curacao license and since they've been in operation since 2012, it's a near certainty the claim is true. Indeed, we find them on the official Curaçao Commercial Register, so that's all good.

With about a decade of operations under their belt, the site is probably not new to many experienced players in the region. However, we'll review several elements of the casino and take a look at their history of fair play as well as any known issues at any sister sites we can confirm.

Thunderbolt is marketed by the same group, but that site is focused on players in New Zealand and may not actually be owned and operated by the same team. We don't find them listed as related at most of the reputable review sites so we'll simply mention they are marketing by the same group.

There is some conflicting information about whether players from places other than South Africa are welcome. The issue is not addressed in the terms and conditions. However, only players in South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, and Mozambique are eligible for bonuses.

We find almost no open or unresolved valid complaints on any of the forums. The Direct Casino Support section at LCB.org has hosted a representative since early 2018. The entire conversation up until the time of this review comprises one question about bonuses and another 'complaint' about not being offered enough bonuses.

One complaint at another site from over 2 years ago was from a player that requested self-exclusion but was allowed to reopen his account before the request was processed.

With that, we'll take a closer look at the software and games found here as well as the bonus value and rules and any customer retention programs along with some specific terms and conditions to be aware of. Then we'll spend a little time on banking methods and procedures, cash out times, document verification, etc.,

Finally, we will present a bullet point list of any pitfalls we may run across and address ways to avoid them if they exist, and wrap it all up with our final word.

Software and Games

The site offers the full library of SpinLogic games (also or formerly known as Realtime Gaming) on the RTG platform.

A download client is available for PC users. This channel currently offers a few more games than the other two as titles are converted for instant play browser access (any operating system) and mobile devices (also, any OS).

Each of the channels contains casino games in every category including video slots, progressives, gaming tables, and card games, and a host of video poker variants.

As of review time, not all titles are available on all channels but it is expected that the offering will be harmonized across all channels as time goes by. It could also be that they plan to keep some titles segregated, such as legacy slots released in the early 2000's only being available on the download client. That is unclear at this point.

New games are released at least once per month and usually more often. The entire library now carries over 300 games. All new games are released on all three channels at Springbok so no matter how you like to play, you'll get the new releases.

Desktop download client software

  2. Run the installer (PC only)

When the entire online gambling industry transitioned to the HTML5 format at the beginning of 2021 (Adobe pulled Flash player support) all of the major game providers had to abandon the old-style games.

All of them, including RTG, had been working on the transition for a long time. Nearly all of them, including NetEnt, chose not to convert every single game in their library. We've only identified two games from RTG/SpinLogic that were abandoned. Pirate Treasures and Ork vs Elf.

Both of these games were simply too huge in file size to convert and would need to be recreated from the ground up. Pirate Treasures was one of the only "dogs" ever released by the Aussie labs and there aren't too many players who will miss it.

Orc vs Elf on the other hand (178Mb) was an adventure-based game that deserves to be recreated in my opinion.

The closest any current games come to the mechanics in that title is found in the Asgard series. With each new bonus trigger, more bonus options open up.

Many modern slots let you pick your own volatility (risk vs potential reward) during the bonus round (15 spins at 4x, 30 spins at 2x, etc.). These games make you earn more valuable bonuses after 10, 15, 20, or more bonus triggers but still allow you to choose a previously earned bonus mechanic.

Legacy games

You'll find about 300 games on the desktop client and about 150 mobile casino games on the other channels.

It's hard to say without back-office data exactly why some games have been slower to come to the instant play and mobile lobbies. Of course, they would select the most popular games first. But once each channel is populated with a good assortment of every type of game - they just might start rolling out the most profitable titles before the ones that players can really win big on - all things being equal as far as popularity.

Be that as it may, you will find more games on the download client for PCs than you will on other channels.

More types of games too, but more on that in a minute...

Games with stacked wilds on all or nearly all reels, like Triton's Treasures, and games with stacked wilds as well as compounding multipliers (2x2x2x2, etc) like Mystic Dragon, as well as some titles that tend toward streaks of free spin re-triggers such as Victory somehow, have not found their way out of the download catalog and into the instant play and mobile libraries yet.

Springbok gives all players the option to play how they want to. Some of the jewels might take little digging to find. An adventure!

Other games found on the download client

Slot tournaments are only available in the desktop lobby.

Look for scratch cards and bingo games including one with random jackpots. Some Real Series 3-reel slots with random jackpots can be found here too.

All channels (mobile, browser, desktop)

All new slots and other games are released across the platform. You'll see them highlighted at the top of the lobby whichever way you choose to play on any given day.

Real Series video slots (Random Jackpots)

RTG was the forerunner to SpinLogic. They were launched in Atlanta. Georgia, U.S.A. back in 1998. By the early 2000s, the company had relocated to the Caribbean, and soon after that, the Australian slots studios opened.

Some of the first true video slots to come out on the platform were games like Achilles, Cleopatra's Gold, and Caesar's Empire. They are still very popular today. One reason for that is that all Real Series titles have at least one random jackpot.

A random jackpot can be won at the end of any spin, no matter how much you stake. High-traffic sites like this one see those jackpots climb high...

...and they climb fast!

That's because a sliver of the value of every spin on the game here adds a little bit to the jackpot. It will continue to grow until the random trigger occurs. I've seen over R1 373,18 won from a spin as low as R1 and I've taken down a few smaller ones over the years at various bet sizes.

Don't chase the randoms...

The odds are definitely against ever winning one - but - if you see two or three games you want to play, and one of them has a far bigger jackpot... why not play that one?

Network progressives

These games, like Spirit of the Inca and Megasaur, offer much larger jackpots. That's because the seed money (the amount the provider or operator kicks in) is higher but there's another reason as well.

Every player at every gaming site on the platform contributes to the progressive jackpot.

As I write, Megasaur is currently sitting at over R13 735 520,00. It's been paid out twice in history, falls about every 3 1/2 years, and hasn't been won since 20 December 2016.

Spirit of the Inca has five separate progressive jackpots. The lowest bet (+/- R7) activates the smallest one. With each increase in bet level, up to (+/- R70), another one is activated. This means that with a max bet you are playing for all 5 jackpots!

But there's more...

Each one of those prizes MUST fall before it reaches a certain level, the jackpot's "boiling point". The "Mini" jackpot is fast approaching the boiling point and it WILL fall before the value passes R1 373 177,00 (US$100,000).

The "big one" Maxi Jackpot is seeded at and must fall before it reaches $250,000. It reached $249,485 before being awarded last time, but every player in those last frantic minutes had a chance.

It's a fun and potentially very lucrative game any time with expanding wilds on every reel, free spins, multipliers up to 10x, and an extra wild on each reel or completely wild reel during free games.

Video poker

Every variant want is found in this library from the easy-to-master Jacks or Better to the high RTP Aces & Eights. The 8-5-4-3-2-1 paytable on this game gives it a return to player percentage (RTP) of 99.78%. That means the house edge is only .22% (1/5th of 1%) with optimal strategy.

If you want a more volatile game than the low-volatility JoB or Aces & Eights, try Deuces Wild for some wild swings - but you'll have to give up some house edge for the thrill factor.

If you liked the RTG video poker paytables in the past, you are going to love the new graphical and user interface on the SpinLogic games. Smooth play, great paytables, and on-the-fly bet changes now make these some of the best VP games online.

Table Games

Most of the games in this section are 21/blackjack variants. Some, like Pontoon, are regional favorites, and others like Perfect Pairs allow side bets with much bigger payouts than a lucky streak of blackjack s can provide.

There's also a Pai Gow poker and baccarat as well as Caribbean poker games with progressive jackpots.

Specialty games

Craps and roulette are found in this section across the platform. Look for a fish shooting game, keno, and a 'snakes and ladders' type trail game called Banana Jones. Other channels have scratch cards, bingo, and more.

Bonuses and Promotions

Since the platform for all three channels offers a harmonized backend, you can take a bonus and/or make a deposit on your mobile and it will be waiting for you when you turn on your laptop or log in to any other channel. You have a single account no matter how you want to play. Your comp points follow you too.

We mentioned earlier, but it bears repeating that bonuses are only available to players in South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, and Mozambique. It's a very focused gaming site with a preferred customer base.

Since the cashier functions in SA Rand (ZAR) so do the bonuses.

Unless stated otherwise, all bonuses will allow you to play on Slots, 7 Stud Poker, Bingo games, European Slot Poker, Keno, Pai Gow Poker, and Scratch Cards.

The welcome offer can change and does change from time to time, so please consider any following numbers to be an illustration rather than an offer. You can see the current offer near the top of this page or visit the site and claim your bonus.

Deposit bonuses did not have a maximum withdrawal amount attached when we visited.

In addition to emails and onsite bonus offers, once you're a regular customer, look for links to Youtube videos that can offer seasonal offers and other play incentives.

Banking and Customer Service

Players in South Africa and nearby have a lot of banking options here. Many will prefer to deposit using Instant EFT secure deposits right from their bank accounts. The funds are available immediately and work for withdrawals too (48-72 hours).

One deposit-only option to use with your bank account is Easy EFT. There's no fee, and no credit card or registration is needed.

Some eWallets are accepted, like ecoPayz, Skrill, and Neteller and they are all good for deposits and withdrawals.

Visa and Mastercard are good ways to deposit in Rands and a straight wire transfer can be a saving grace for withdrawals. However, use this as a last resort as the funds may take up to 20 business days to be settled in your account.

Springbok accepts Bitcoin. There's a good video on the site that can help new users learn the ropes. There's also written information to get you started. Deposits can appear in as few as ten minutes, but processing time on the casino end still takes 48-72 hours.

Document verification

This is a standard procedure at all online gambling sites. In order to cash out your winnings, you'll need to verify your age and identity as well as confirm that you own any financial instruments or accounts you have used at the casino. There is information for new players in the banking section of the site.

Expect your first withdrawal to take longer than 48-72 hours to reach you if you haven't taken care of this little bit of housekeeping before requesting a withdrawal.

Customer care

Support agents are available around the clock if you ever run into a stuck spot. Live chat, phone support, and email support are available.

Responsible gambling

Self-exclusion is available at any time with the minimum term being one month. You will not be able to deposit or play during that time. The 48-hour processing period that may have appeared in the terms a few years ago seems to have been removed for better player protection.

Contact customer care at any time to set up daily or monthly deposit limits.

Pitfalls

  • Bonuses only available in select countries
  • Banking in Rands only
  • Game selection limited to one provider
  • Must zero out your balance prior to taking a bonus

The Final Word

Springbok Casino is South Africa's homespun online gaming site. Everything about it focused on players in SA or nearby.

You'll only have games from one provider, but over the years (since 1998) they have outsourced a lot of game creation to 3rd party developers so there is a really good diversity. I personally prefer many of the Asian-themed slots because they seem to hold most of the progressive bonus mechanics (a bonus in bonus, extra spins with added features, etc.).

Video poker has always had great paytables here but I shied away from it up until the new versions were rolled out. From day one until early 2021 players had to leave the screen to change the coin size, and that didn't sit well with me.

Since this is such a popular place to play, the Real Series Random Jackpots can build up quickly and there are a lot of them to choose from. With so many good games to play it just makes sense to spend a little more time on favorites that also have big jackpots, wouldn't you agree? Of course, it's senseless to chase a jackpot, but like the lottery - you can't win it if you don't play.

As for the operator's reputation, they don't get many complaints and nearly all of them are settled fairly. Since they've been in business since 2012 I would expect to find a lot more chatter out there, even if it were simply sore losers, new players who didn't understand bonus terms, or even shills for a competitor trying to make them look less than savory.

There's only one complaint that gives pause - it was several years ago, and the offending term seems to have been removed. Please, if you have a gambling problem simply do not visit in the first place. If you find this too late, please contact customer service and either set some limits or self-exclude. This stuff is supposed to be fun!

We didn't cover all of the bonus offers because, well, some of them are kind of too sweet to mention. We think it might disappoint some players if we described a 300% bonus with regular playthrough terms and no max cashout, and then you go visit and it's no longer available (it probably is).

We didn't mention the cashback program either for the same reasons. 25% cashback on all clean deposits with 10x playthrough and no max cashout? I'd be disappointed if someone offered that and it wasn't available. Would you?

We could talk about the monthly bonuses and comp points (double for the game of the month), but we wanted to leave something for you to discover when you visit.

It's hard to find a real time gaming casino that doesn't seem to be exactly the same as every other. This one has a very unique interface and they did a very good job creating an original platform. For an RTG casino, this one definitely stands out among the rest

No doubt, South Africans really know how to manage casino. This is one's of the best Real Time Gaming casinos. RTP is on highest level. Bonuses and promotions in every possible way; from extra % on crypto depositing, over 150% on regular deposit , to the free spins for supporting their YouTube channel. Only disadvantage is just one provider.

Despite the fact that the casino only offers one game provider, it's very good, I've been a member for several months on this one and other very similar ones, then no problems. Fast registration, fast customer service, you have to be patient for withdrawal, but they are legit. If you like small and light online casinos, this is the best place.

I love RTG games. I remember a long time ago I often played here. However, in the last few years, Springbook casino has mainly focused on players coming from African countries. I doubt that this is the correct business policy of the casino management. In any case, I have not played here for years
