Introduction

The online gambling industry in South Africa is thriving; so many operators have started accepting and catering to South African players in the best way possible, and allowing them to make the smoothest transactions with Capitec Pay. This is a mobile payment solution that was launched in the country for the purpose of facilitating online payments to South African users, by the Capitec Bank. With that aim, it was designed to be as user-friendly as possible, allowing for effortless transactions in just a few taps on a smartphone. As such, the solution became a user-favorite payment method in South Africa, and for that reason, most if not all operators catering to South African players started offering it. Follow our lead to find out more about it to eventually start using it. What is Capitec Pay and why use it as your default payment method across South African casinos?

About Capitec Pay

Capitec Bank, one of the most powerful banks in South Africa, and recently dubbed as the “Coolest Bank” in the country in 2023, is a bank with over two decades of history. Launched in 2001 in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, the bank has had years of experience in the financial scene, continuously evolving and improving its services to provide South African users with the most effortless banking. Seeing the desperate need in the country for a convenient and easy-to-use solution that would allow users to make effortless transactions via their mobile devices, the bank launched Capitec Pay, a mobile payment solution available to all South Africans.

The solution was launched as part of the 2025 vision of the South African Reserve Bank, on Capitec Bank’s initiative for Open Banking. It was designed with the aim of enriching the eCommerce world with a next-gen environment when it comes to banking, incorporating bullet-proof security measures, like encryption and biometric authentication. That’s why it has managed to partner up with prominent payment providers like Pay@, Ozow, WalletDoc, Netcash, Payfast, UtiliPay, CallPay, Peach Payments, Real Pay, Pay Genius, Futterwave and Stitch, among many others.

The best part about it is that it is incredibly intuitive to use, as all you’ll ever share with an eCommerce platform is your mobile phone number; no banking details, no credit cards, nada. The mobile phone number you provided upon opening your bank account will work as your ID, your credentials when using the mobile payment solution, so before you attempt using it, make sure you double-check with your bank whether it’s the same phone number you’re using at the moment.

You would need to have your Capitec Bank app downloaded and installed on your smartphone; and as long as you do, your payments and purchases will go from “pay” to “paid” in just a few taps on your mobile device, in no time. You just have to select the solution as your default payment method at the chosen eCommerce platform, provide your phone number, and specify how much you'd want to transfer, then go through the two-factor authentication; it is that intuitive. You will get a push notification from the bank to approve your transaction via your app and that would be it.

Before we get into the getting started procedure in detail, we should mention here that Capitec Pay has managed to get at the top of the payment method lists across most South African casinos. You will have no issue finding a site to join quickly that allows you to select it as your default payment method, so let's go over the steps you need to take to get started with it, and then we'll go over the depositing and withdrawing procedures and other details.

How to Start Using Capitec Pay

Having read what you have so far, it is probably clear to you that to use it, you must meet three conditions: to be a South African player, to have an account with the Capitec Bank, and to have a smartphone. If you don't have an account with the bank, rest assured that it is incredibly easy to open one; just visit the bank and provide some basic personal details, and the account will immediately be active. While there, make sure you request your online banking credentials, to get a smoother experience with the solution.

As mentioned, the first thing you need to do to get started with it is to download the bank’s app on your smartphone. To get access to the app, you need to use your online banking credentials, and that would be it. You don’t need to register any new accounts; as soon as you enter your app you can start using the solution right away, as you’ll authenticate your transactions via it.

Once all that is in order, you just need to select the solution (or one of the partnered payment providers) as your default payment method at the eCommerce site, or in our case, the online casino that you joined, and you can immediately request a transaction via it.

In fact, you would need to enter your phone number, specify how much you'd like to transfer, and send your request. The bank will send you a push notification for you to approve the transfer in-app. If you don't receive this push notification for some reason, enter your app, tap Transact, then Capitec Pay, then select Pending Authorizations and of course, tap Approve.

The solution is, indeed, perfect for online gambling transactions as your online banking details are never shared with the operator. So, if you wish to start using it as your online casino payment method, continue reading to figure out how to make deposits and withdrawals with it across the many South African casinos that accept it.

Depositing and Withdrawing with the Solution

Even though a rather new payment solution, launched only in 2023, Capitec Pay is getting the recognition it deserves on the South African online gambling scene. It is already accepted across at least a dozen online casino sites, sites like Europa Casino and 10Bet Casino Africa, of course, but you can rest assured that your choices will increase in the future, having in mind its instant popularity among users from the country.

So, the first thing on your to-do list should be joining a suitable online casino. Check out several options and then join the one that meets all your criteria, by providing basic personal details. To start making deposits with Capitec Pay, do the following:

  1. Head over to the Cashier/Banking/Payment Methods page once you log into your player account.
  2. Find Capitec Pay's logo in the Deposits section, or one of the partnered payment providers, and select it.
  3. Enter your mobile phone number and specify how much you want to deposit.
  4. Wait for the push notification and approve the transaction via your app.
  5. Within seconds, the funds will arrive on your online casino balance.

Even though a mobile payment solution, considering it was launched by a bank, Capitec Pay is actually an excellent withdrawal method. Working in collaboration with popular payment providers, the solution offers the functionality and it is actually incredibly easy to request a payout with it.

The procedure will go quite similarly, as again, you'd need to provide your mobile phone number and specify how much it is that you'd like to cash out. Since your number is linked to your bank account, the operator will have the information on where to send your money. Capitec Pay will take it from there and ensure the funds arrive in your bank account as soon as approved by the operator. The operator may take up to 48 hours to approve your request, after reviewing whether you're eligible to cash out as much as you requested, and as soon as it does, the money will reach your bank account.

Coverage and Restrictions

There’s no need for further clarification; the solution is only accepted in South Africa. We mentioned no other countries throughout our article, and that’s because the solution was designed by a South African bank, for the South African people.

Unless you are a South African player, don’t even bother trying to use it. Try finding a similar solution available in your country, which will allow you to make smooth transactions via your smartphone.

Fees and Additional Charges

Capitec Bank made sure to make the solution as cost-efficient as possible, to further facilitate the way South Africans transact online. That’s why transactions with it are subject to a fee of only ZAR1.

Online casinos won’t charge you for choosing to use it for your deposits and withdrawals, so the ZAR1 fee per transaction is the only one you’d need to pay when using Capitec Pay.

Accepted Currencies

The South African rand is the default currency you’ll be using when transacting with the solution. Since it was designed for South African users, it is only natural that transactions with it will be in their native currency.

So, if you’re a South African playing at an online casino that caters to players from your country, which supports the rand, you won’t be paying currency conversion fees.

Customer Support

When you visit Capitec Bank’s official website, you will see that there’s a page with Capitec Pay FAQs that you can explore if you wish to find answers to any questions you may have, by yourself.

However, you can also use the direct phone line and get in touch with its team at 0860 10 20 43, in case your question or problem needs immediate assistance.

Conclusion

Capitec Pay is certainly a payment solution that deserves your attention. If you're a South African player, who wishes to make smooth, cost-efficient, and safe deposits and withdrawals across South African online casinos, make sure you choose it over any other, as it will certainly provide you with everything you need and more.

Exclusively for those who like to game with Capitec accounts, this is a very popular deposit method in South Africa. This bank has the lowest fees and generally no downtime. Personally, I use vouchers and crypto more though.
