Lottoland Review

Lottoland is one of the world's leading online lottery sites. The Gibraltar based company was founded in 2013 and is licensed to serve players in Australia, Sweden, Gibraltar, Ireland, Italy, United Kingdom, South Africa, and elsewhere.

The firm is subject to the same regulations and rules as other gambling concerns in Great Britain.

Lottoland holds the current Guinness World Records title for the largest online lottery payout in history thanks to the luck of a German player who won €90 million in June of 2018.

The Games

You'll find all of the world's top lotteries here including the super fat El Gordo Christmas Lottery, SA Powerball, Mexico Melate, SuperEnalotto, and more.

Keno games are drawn every four minutes around the clock. Several categories of instant scratch cards from Budget to Millionaire offer entry for as little as 0.10 per card and millions in prizes.

Random number generated bingo and in-person ball draw games along with animated instant wins have their own categories.

For those in some jurisdictions who want to do more than play instant games and multi-million-euro draws, there's also a full casino with slots, card games, and live dealer streams to round out the offering. - all can be played for real money.

Guaranteed prizes

Through the use of a Random & insured Number Generator (RiNG™), they are able to offer the highest paying instant prize and scratch games in addition to world lottery draws. Their €10mn instant scratchcard is the highest paying game of its type anywhere in Europe.

We'll explain more later, but you don't actually purchase lottery tickets from Lottoland, rather, you make a bet on the outcome of the draw on games like US Powerball, MegaMillions, EuroJackpot, and other big-money world lotteries.

When you win, you get the same amount of money a person in the country of the lottery's draw would receive. If you bet on a UK lottery and win, you pay no tax on the winnings as gambling isn't taxed in Great Britain.

It's a perfectly safe proposition as the customer from Germany could attest to with her €90 million payday!

Operator reputation

Taking a deep look at their history for any flaws in the operation or oft-repeated gripes we only find the common and inevitable grumbles and plenty of kudos.

Just like anywhere you might play for real money online, some customers have had verification issues (proving who they are and they owned the deposit method). Other's simply complain because they think it's 'their time to win', and of course, players who accidentally created more than one account and took bonuses.

Much to Lottoland's credit, they engage with customers on the public forums and even answer seemingly minor complaints such one about a few cents stuck in a player's account they couldn't withdraw.

Each response we've seen has been cordial, professional, fair, and responsible.

Lottery Betting and How it Works

While betting on the lottery pays out guaranteed prizes, it's a bit different from buying an online lottery ticket.

The operator is not in any way affiliated with the official lottery operator. Whatever money you win is paid out by Lottoland.

That's essentially the only difference. You still choose your game, pick your numbers or let the quick pick feature select for you, make your bet (like buying a ticket), and collect your winnings - the exact same winnings as someone in the country the lottery draw occurs in would collect.

Simple, yes?

There are many models used for online lottery play. Some are crafted after the way a bookmaker works, some are actually lottery courier services that simply purchase tickets for you at a slightly or grossly inflated price, and others, like Lottoland, operate on the insurance model.

Your jackpot winnings are guaranteed because they are insured! Lower-tier prizes and smaller wins are paid right out of the company funds they collect directly through ticket sales. Their Irish and UK licenses require the liquidity of funds and procedures in place to pay all winnings.

Purchasing Powerball or other lotto bets

We'll walk you through the process of betting on the US Powerball because it's a popular product and the process is much the same for this and many other lottery draws.

Simply click on the Powerball tab along the top of the page. You'll see the current jackpot prize as well as a couple of purchase options. If you don't want one of the bundles, just go to the Quick +1 option. Click 'Rest' to fill out the rest of the lines, or click the rubbish bin to trash your selections.

Once you have one or more cards filled out, you'll enter choices in the fields below.

Draw - Thursday or Sunday or Thursday AND Sunday.

Duration - One or more weeks from the dropdown menu, a subscription, or a hunt. A subscription will run for as many weeks as you choose and a hunt will purchase tickets until a jackpot is won by anyone, ending your current hunt. You can opt-out at any time.

Participation - Here, you can start a subscription and have the system automatically start buying tickets for you at certain prize levels. You can also set the date of the first draw.

Extra Game - This is Powerball specific and let's buy the PowerPlay feature. It will double the value of second-tier prizes and multiply the value of non-jackpot prizes by up to 10x.

Once you have made all your selections simply press or tap the shopping cart icon to Submit!

The process is essentially the same for EuroMillions and most other lottery bets.

Securing your bets

You'll be taken to a new page to confirm and proceed. On this page, you can also grab a few quick picks on games like EuroJackpot, EuroMillions, MegaMillions, German Lotto, and Lotto x5 with a single click for each. If you change your mind, simply trash that particular line item on your order and you are ready to proceed.

The next action item will be a popup page asking you to register an account if you haven't already. You can also log in if you haven't yet. Key in and submit your identifying information or simply register with your Facebook credentials in one click.

Go to the cashier and register a payment method and complete your transaction. You are now betting on the world's biggest lottery draws with guaranteed payouts.

Let's look at payouts

All you have to do is log in to check the results of your lottery draws. The site keeps track of results for you so you don't have to scour hundreds of results every day you play.

After each draw you bet on is completed you'll receive a notification email letting you know if you won and how much.

There's also a section of the site which lists the results for every lottery they cover.

As mentioned above, payouts are handled as if you were in the country where the winning numbers are drawn. This means that UK and most other European residents who play Euro games won't pay any taxes or have anything deducted from the prize value.

If you bet on the US Powerball or MegaMillions, etc. the payout replicates the actual lottery payout. Expect to see 38% of the prize value deducted from American lotteries to account for taxes just like it would be there.

That does not mean they pay the taxes, you won't owe the US government anything - it simply keeps the actual prize in line with a direct lottery prize award.

Jackpots can be paid out on an annuity over 30 years. if you choose this option you would receive one payment each year for thirty years until the full value is disbursed.

If you want the cash all at once, you can receive 60% of the cash value of the annuity in one lump sum.

All other lotteries except Cash4Life are paid out in a single lump-sum payment. This includes the multi-billion-euro El Gordo Christmas draw and all others.

All other price tiers are paid in a lump sum as well.

Claim your winnings

When you win, the funds will be reflected in your Lottoland account on the secure website. You can use small wins to purchase more tickets or you can cash out.

Simply go to your account, choose 'transactions', and withdraw the amount you wish to one of the methods presented.

If you have deposited with a Visa card, you can simply request the payout back to that card.

Payouts to Neteller and Skrill are available up to the individual transaction limits on your personal account and you can do several transactions if you need to.

While small wins can be processed through the payment interface, you'll need to get in touch with customer service to withdraw large sums such as a jackpot.

The best method to use in case of a big win is bank transfer. The firm doesn't charge any fees for withdrawals but your bank might add a small fee.

More ways to play - Syndicates

As mentioned earlier, you can buy tickets for a single draw or activate a subscription. You can also join a syndicate of other players to increase the chance to win a share of a jackpot prize.

A syndicate is basically a managed pool. Several people pitch in to buy more lines thus increasing their chances of picking a winning jackpot combination.

You are basically buying shares in a bet. For example, if there are 100 participants and the bet wins 100m, each share would be awarded 1m. If you bought 20 shares, your payout would be 20m, and so on. You have a 100x better chance to win but your payout would be commensurate with your contribution.

While it might seem complicated at first blush, it might be quite easy to decide whether you want 100x better odds to win part of a JACKPOT that you share with others.

To enter a syndicate, simply go to that page and select the one you want to join, how many shares you want to buy, and the duration of your participation. Choose 1, 2, 4, or 8 weeks - or simply subscribe to have the system buy your shares until you cancel the subscription.

This sort of bet really makes sense with a game like US Powerball where the jackpot has gone as high as $1.6 billion in the past.
