United States: New Jersey Jurisdiction profile

Affiliates can also be licensed and operate online gaming options in cooperation with a casino in Atlantic City. This allows outside companies to enter the state and partner with an existing casino to offer services. All equipment related to online gambling must be located in a restricted area of a casino. Backup systems must be in place if an outage occurs and shuts down operations. The Division must approve the location before a provider can get started. Amendments made to the Casino Control Act state that all gaming activity taking place via the internet must do so within state lines. The law allows bets to be accepted from players outside the state if federal laws change. For now, geolocation software is used to detect a player’s location. All online casinos require players to utilize this type of software. With geolocation in place, the operator can determine where you are. Any player that is not in the Garden State will be denied service. Desktop and mobile devices are compatible with iGaming so players can enjoy online casino gaming on the go. The convenience of mobile gaming has made the option a go-to choice for most players. Players must be willing to verify their identity to sign up for a new player account with a licensed provider. Basic identification information is required, including the player’s age and location. You may also be asked to submit a copy of your driver’s license and proof of address. New Jersey is one of the oldest and largest online gaming markets offered in the United States today. Many other states look to New Jersey’s licensing and regulation process to have a starting point for their own iGaming industry. The Garden State is a leader in online casino gaming and works hard to help push other states to begin offering online casino services as well. There was a time when analysts expected the market in NJ to become saturated due to the number of operators offering services. However, that was not the case.
