Halloween is drawing near (or has already passed depending on when you’re reading this) and that means all the different game developers are coming out with their own horror-themed offerings to honor the western hemisphere’s most popular secular holiday.

This time it’s Yggdrasil’s turn and they have cooked up a monstrous new take on a very old subject.

From the skinwalkers of Native American myths to the shirtless wonders of Twilight, you know it – it’s werewolves.

Theme

Set late at night just outside a creepy house in a non-descript but undeniably Victorian landscape, you would be forgiven for confusing this game with Pragmatic Play’s Vampires Vs Wolves, a game with a very similar vibe.

There are differences. of course, this game does not feature any vampires and is dedicated solely and completely to werewolves. Everything in this offering is themed after these vicious monsters who also yet tragic victims.

It’s the old Jekyll and Hyde thing, and this offering is all about transformation. This is because of the high paying symbols which are all characters that turn into monsters. And when they’re monsters they’re also wilds. Get it? Wild monsters. How clever on Yggdrasil’s part.

As is now expected from this developer, the graphics and the sound are top-notching and there are no complaints there. The team should be commended on a steady release of games that are all high-end and could easily match the best offerings put out by mobile gaming developers.

Betting Options and Functions

This particular Halloween-themed fright-fest takes place over a standard five by three grid with 20 fixed paylines. A spin will set you back 10 cents on the lowest bet setting or a whole 100 euros on the maximum bet making this entry quite appealing to high-roller players.

Other options that have become standard in recent years include a spin speed setting which goes from very slow to blazing fast and the autoplay option with all the necessary settings to control how and when they are stopped.

Special Features

As could be expected, the features in the game are all centered around the idea of transformation and the Moon. The Moon is, of course, the central thing in the werewolf myth as the victims of lycanthropy turn into scary monsters when Moon is full.

This is represented by a lunar cycle calendar at the top of the board, flanked by two stone wolves for additional atmospherics, which spins along with the reels.

If it stops of a full moon all the high paying symbols will turn into their wolf form and become wilds.

There are also random features that can be triggered during the base game and during the extra spin cycles.

These are a random multiplier, a nudge feature that activates the full moon, random wilds where only the high paying symbols which give the highest win transform, and a feature that adds one random extra spins symbol.

Talking about those extra spins…

…they are activated when at least three special symbols land on the reels. The number of spins depends on the number of symbols.

During this mode, the normal full moon is replaced by the blood moon which still turns symbols wild but makes it so that they stay wild on the reel set.

Our Take

Out of all the different Halloween slots we’ve seen recently such as Gamomat’s Xploding Pumpkinsthis one definitely has a lot of merits and is an engaging way to spend some time playing slots.

With a number of good features that also fit the theme, why not spook yourself and enjoy some beastly fun?
