We can never get enough of vampires. Turn on the TV or log into your favorite streaming service and count the number of shows featuring these lovable bloodsuckers.
And God help you if you find yourself in the romance section of a bookstore, where books with vampires, werewolves, angels, devils and other beings from the otherworld seem like the only thing anyone cares about.
Pragmatic Play is clearly aware of the trend, and they have released their own take on the subject focusing on a very important question. The question being, “which is cooler vampires or werewolves?”
Theme
In the background of the play area are we see a mysterious little town at sunset. Probably the kind of small town that looks nice and idyllic at first glance but hides many mysteries.
Such are towns in supernatural fiction, of course. But they sure are atmospheric.
And the reels are graced…
…by a cast of six characters, three of which are Team Vampire and the other three Team Werewolf.
The illustration work on these symbols is very reminiscent of the artwork one might find gracing an Anne Rice or Stephanie Mayer book. Lots of long hair and smoldering eyes, that is.
Think more “vampires as sex symbols” rather than “vampires as scary monsters.”
Betting Options and Functions
This tale of werewolves and vampires has five reels, three rows, and 10 fixed paylines.
What isn’t fixed is the coin size and the number of coins per line, however. Punters who enjoy this kind of granular control over their bets will enjoy the fact that coins per line and the coin size can be set independently to produce a wide range of possible bet denominations.
It all totals to the minimum stake being $0.10 and the maximum $50.
In addition to this…
…we have to say that this game has the fastest animations we’ve ever seen. Punters who don’t care at all for visual flair can just keep spacebar pressed down (or enable the feature the developer calls Turbo Spin from the menu) and the reels will just fly.
Special Features
It’s not like we haven’t seen this kind of thing before. Microgaming's Immortal Romance was published ages ago but still tops popularity charts.
So what has Pragmatic done to stand out?
In a very elegant twist of events, this isn’t one of those slots that are overstuffed with special features.
Instead, there are just two. One extra spins mode for each supernatural team.
There are two scatter symbols and they live exclusively on reels one and five. They are a wolf howling at the Moon and a fancy but creepy castle.
When they get together…
…punters get to answer the question we posed at the beginning of this review. Which is cooler? Only you can choose, and choose wisely because both extra spin modes offer tantalizing opportunities.
The Wolf spins turn all wolf symbols into wilds and features medium volatility while the Vampire spins give a chance for every vampire symbol to turn into a sticky wild and also crank up the volatility to the max.
Our Take
With nice graphics, elegant but engaging features and plenty of options for players to customize their experience, this is a very good entry into the supernatural theme portion of the slot market.
Anyone who’s into vampires, werewolves, and other creatures of the night should not miss this.
