About the Company

Northern Lights Gaming (NL Gaming Sweden AB) is a young company with an expansive depth and breadth of experience in online gaming and slots development. The company was founded by agreement in 2016 and officially launched at the beginning of 2017. Much of the c-suite talent traces its roots back to Jadestone, a company founded by Chairman Robert Henrysson of Sweden in early 2002. His company was acquired by WMS (Williams), a pioneer in video slot games.

CEO, Andrew Goodale of the UK started his gaming career at Barcrest and joined Williams Interactive a few months before Scientific Games acquired the company. He then became a senior director and head of global content at SG Interactive before leaving to join Henrysson and lead up the team at Northern Lights Gaming.

The company holds a UKGC license for remote gambling software and applied with the Alderney Gambling Control Commission for a Core Service Provider Associate Certificate in late 2017. Observers can expect the company to secure any license needed to operate in any jurisdiction as Henrysson has managed market entries and licensing for jurisdictions such as Malta, Gibraltar, New Jersey, Canada, Belgium, Italy, and Denmark in the past.

Additional Jadestone alumni include Senior Game Server Developer, Andreas Knifh, CTO and system architect Peter Lundh as well as Jadestone co-founder Patrik Roos, now Director of the Board and acting CFO at NL.

The company came into the public eye in early 2018, when Cherry AB subsidiary subsidiary, Yggdrasil Gaming announced that NL would be the first outside company invited to develop on the Yggdrasil Game Server (YGS) Masters platform.

Software and Games

Seeing the team's history in Barcrest and WMS it's not surprising to learn that NL has set their eye on the UK market first, developing high-quality games that will appeal to the target audience and beyond. UK players are certainly familiar with Rainbow Riches, a game some of the team was behind developing and players everywhere know the Monopoly franchise of games, which CEO Goodale was behind during his time at Williams Interactive.

All games are designed and deployed for the current market and future gaming devices in HTML5 so they can be played on a desktop or any mobile device with landscape and portrait orientation for tablets and smartphones.

Most of the games are still under wraps as we go to press on the review as they are putting the finishing touches on the first tranche planned for release. One great aspect of working on the Yggdrasil Game Server Masters platform is that they now have access to a collection of in-game promotional tools that they are able to develop their own versions of inside their game clients. There is no way to predict the company's potential innovations at this point but expect variations on such themes as in-game missions, cash drop tournaments, in-game tournaments with their own dashboards, and possibly the ability for players to share big wins on their own social media channels using the BRAG element of the BOOST facility.

One of the first games to look for is Rocky's Gold Slot. The 5-reel, 20 payline game features glistening gems, exploding wilds, free spins, and a well-developed game world with 3D animations. Bonus symbols lock on reels 3 and 4 to trigger dynamite wins and rocky can throw dynamite wilds at any reel position on any spin. Landing three or more scatters allows players to pick one to determine the game's behavior during the bonus round which can include modifying reels doing all kinds of crazy stuff and even holding over between spins.

The Final Analysis

Northern Lights Gaming seems well positioned to take their place among the cult-classic developers like Rabcat, Thunderkick, and Quickspin to name a few and we expect to see some amazing games come out of the studio. When such a young company finds themselves able to connect to the power of a provider like Yggdrasil so early on, we're bound to see some of that excitement spill over into their games.
