Book of Oz Lock ‘N Spinby Triple Edge Studios

It’s time to buckle up and leave Kansas behind in this release by Triple Edge Studios because the independent third-party developer is taking Microgaming down the yellow brick road to exciting features and big prizes.
Starting out as yet another adaptation of the famous Wizard of Oz story, the developer has added enough elements to make it their own and offer a unique spin on the well-worn story.
Triple Edge Studio has created this game for the iGaming giant Microgaming so let’s see how it stacks up in the wide roster of excellent and high-quality games the company is known for.
Theme
The Wizard of Oz is one of the most popular stories for various types of adaptations. Originally written in 1900 it has proven to be one of the most dearly beloved children’s books that was later turned into an equally acclaimed Hollywood movie in 1939 staring the famous actress Judy Garland.
Since then, the story has been retold many times in various forms from comic books to video games, and now it’s also a video slot.
However, this particular adaptation focuses more on the Wizard rather than on other characters from the story. In fact, Dorothy is nowhere to be seen in this title. Strange omission or maybe it’s meant to be a prequel.
In any case…
…the game has a very strong aesthetic and crisp graphics which is, of course, expected from anything Microgaming publishes.
The symbols are the Wizard himself, and representations of courage, heart, and brains that the lion, the tin man, and the scarecrow wanted for themselves.
Betting Options and Functions
This yellow brick road stretches across a 5x3 playing field with 10 fixed paylines. The minimum bet is 10 cents but it can go all the way up to 25 euros at the max level, which is hefty but not quite high-roller.
The most interesting function of the game is no doubt the lock and respin function. Punters can choose to lock any reel they want and keep it locked as they respin the rest to try and get a better outcome. It’s possible to lock up to 4 reels and the price for the lock depends on what symbols are present on the reel.
One thing to keep in mind is that the combined price of the locked reels can exceed the maximum bet.
Special Features
With the base game being covered by the engaging Lock and Respin function, the rest of the special features are all revolving around the extra spins.
This mode is activated when three or more books appear on the reel. Getting more than three will give a larger number of spins.
Before the mode begins a symbol is chosen at random to become a special symbol that will expand to cover the entire reel if two or more of it appear on the different reels.
Punters can also use the 2nd chance feature to re-roll for the special symbol.
Our Take
Far from the only Wizard of Oz slot game available, this version by Triple Edge is, however, a unique spin that is worth taking a chance on. The lock and respin feature is definitely its strongest suit but the rest of the features don’t disappoint.
