Tain started out in 1999 with a sports book and added a betting exchange. They began developing casino games on the platform and then created a poker network,. The poker network merged with Playtech creating the iPoker Network, which enjoys a strong position and continued growth today. Although Tain is mostly considered a platform, this multinational company with offices in Malta, Sweden, and the Ukraine have also developed about 20 casino games throughout their history. These games are now delivered over the Tain platform along with games from such illustrious partners as Playtech, Evolution Gaming, NextGen, Microgaming, Cryptologic, Green Tube, Genesis, Leander Games, IGT, NetEnt and BetSoft. Tain is a privately owned company. Their headquarters are in Malta.
Tain games are delivered over no download flash technology making the user's browser the client in the equation. The list of Tain products is extensive and includes Tain Poker(iPoker), Thorium Casino, Thorium Sportsbook, Tain Sportsbook, Tain Bingo (Playtech & Parlay) Tain Commons Platform, Payment Gateway, Single Wallet Module and a Tain Shop Product.
The Tain casino games we played were delivered over a web browser and we don't find reference to the Tain software being integrated into any download casino clients. The initial load of the games was slow and subsequent accesses to the same game were not a lot quicker after a few days. This suggests that there is not extensive caching on the client. This is good. Player options in the Game Settings tab include animation and sound effects. Autoplay is available on some slots as well as a max bet button. Pressing the Max Bet button forces all lines, and changes your coin denomination to the highest possible value, then spins the reels with no choice to examine the wager before spinning. Otherwise, line count can be set on the user console or by clicking pay line numbers on either side of the reels.
We find 22 slots attributable to Tain, along with 6 different hand counts on each of three video poker variants and several classic casino games in Flash and Java. There are several 3-reel, one line to five line games. These include Low Riders and Galactic Cash as well as newer 3-reel games like Cafe de Paris (not to be confused with the Dragonfish/888 or GameScale versions). None of the java based games worked for us over the course of several weeks. Players will also find five reel games with various line counts. Hunting Season is a newer 20 line game with a shooting bonus and jackpot prize. Soccer Challenge is another 20-line game with wild symbols, scatters and a progressive jackpot.
We find the eCogra Certified Software seal on the Tain website although it is not an active link. We also find non-clickable logos for The Malta LGA, Isle of Man and Denmark. The only user-verifiable link is a valid license from Curaçao eGaming. We find no RNG certification, TST, or Certified Fair Gaming seals.
Tain is one of the pioneers of online gaming. However, it appears as if their focus is now almost entirely on the platform and we don't anticipate much new game development. The games we played were not exceptional by any means but most were fine for entertainment. We don't find any valid complaints about failure to pay out progressive jackpots or any allegations of unfair software. Due to their strong history, we are inclined to give a recommendation but the lack of fair gaming certifications leaves us with a neutral conclusion. Players are on their own with this one. If we come to an endorsement you will see links to casinos carrying Tain products immediately following each game review.
