One of the greatest American holidays is upon us (or has already passed depending on when you are reading this review) and that means it’s turkey time. Yes, the holiday is Thanksgiving and the main feature of any Thanksgiving the turkey.

Developer Mobilots has decided to celebrate the holiday in the only way an igaming developer could – by making a themed slot game.

It’s full of things that we know and love about this holiday and also offers some interesting twists on the gameplay level.

Theme

Set in what appears to be a pretty idyllic farmhouse (there’s a red barn in the background and that’s a dead giveaway) on a 5x5 grid the game is cheerful and colorful.

It’s a relaxed and friendly atmosphere helped along by the rolling green hills in the background of the grid area.

But what really stands out…

…is the animated turkey perched atop a jackpot gauge. This turkey is big and fat but also full of personality wearing a signature conical black hat with the buckle which is actually called a capotain (we checked). The turkey is also very well-mannered and will occasionally salute the players by taking the hat off.

All the symbols in the game…

…are items traditionally associated with the Thanksgiving dinner. Apples, corn, pumpkins, blueberries, and a slice of pie. There’s also a hat and the turkey is also present in the form of special jackpot symbol.

Betting Options and Functions

While the gird is presented in a fairly traditional 5x5 layout, the actual gameplay is anything but. This is because traditional paylines are gone in favor of a tumbling system and winning combinations are formed as clusters of 4 or more symbols touching each other vertically or horizontally.

Once a winning combination is made, the symbols disappear and new ones fall from the top. So it’s all about getting big cascades that lead to big fat wins.

Aside from this…

…there is autoplay which automates spins and can be set to infinity. Punters can also choose to speed up the animations and that is great because the win chains can get quite long.

Special Features

The main feature in this offering is the jackpot which is governed by the jackpot gauge to the left of the grid. It fills as jackpot symbols appear on the reels and make a winning combination. Every time four or more of these symbols touch each other a sum is added to the gauge.

Once it hits $50 the prize is awarded. But that’s not the end of it as the Bonus Game is also triggered.

It’s a bonus wheel whose function is to re-seed the jackpot with a new starting value making it easier to hit the pot again.

Our Take

This is not the first time this developer has gone for a festive theme as they have previously made the Christmas-flavored Advent Wins.

It’s obviously a theme they’re good at because Big Fat Turkey has all the makings of a very good game. From the innovative cluster pays system to the persistent jackpot bonus this is one solidly made tribute to one of America’s most important holidays.
