Global Gaming Labs
Global Gaming Labs was a long-time live casino provider that shut down its services around 2017. Up to that point the company had had a long and rich history, starting operations back in 2002. Although, some information points to a later start date. As usual, it’s close to impossible to source any official information on this matter.
So what happened?
Originally the company started as a land-based provider. This later turned into providing live casino tables directly from the casino floor. The games were provided internationally, backed by the Curacao licence. This also meant offering the games to US players, which was something of a controversial issue in the long run. Perhaps this is also why the company seemed to view Asia as another option for expansion.
Whilst the company grew to cover nearly one hundred clients, its story still ended when it did. Not much news or information fits in between here. What we do know is that most of the operations were sold to Visionary iGaming, as the original owners concentrated on other areas of iGaming.
Live Casino Products
The company operates a handful of games. The software suite offered considerable customization to different clients, including different themes and even promotional tools. A selection of languages was available on request.
The interface was quite modern, at least for its time. This supported play on mobile devices, though seems to have been made more towards desktop players. Statistics, help for betting, and other such settings as tools were on the normal level.
Here’s what we know about the games:
- Poker
Basically hold’em poker is played against the house, as is the case with live casino poker games everywhere. Very easy game, with not much going on beyond the very basics. The company used manual shuffling.
- Roulette
A couple of different versions were used, mainly European and American roulette. The company seems to have used two cameras per table for different angles. Special bets were available, naturally with higher risks and higher payouts.
- Blackjack
Like with roulette, a couple of different versions existed. Either with slightly different rules or limits, or what was called unlimited blackjack. The big change was that any number of players could play in the five positions on the table. Slightly different rules on splitting pairs and such also existed.
- Baccarat
Baccarat is one of the simplest card and table games out there, so it's no surprise that Global Gaming Labs had added a couple of side bets. These included player or bank drawing a pair. Statistics were included for those who like to think one can predict upcoming results in gambling.
It was what it was
All in all, this was a very small selection of games. No doubt they did offer a nice set of tables for players at the time. But, they also failed to innovate and keep up with the times, or to respond to other live casino providers offering a vastly more innovative set of games.
Interpretation
There’s still some rumours going on in the deep crevices of the internet about the company failing because one of their dealers was seen changing a card in the middle of play. Whatever happened in that case is a mystery, but it would be wrong to say it influenced the company quitting operations. As far as we know, they were already in the process of integrating their clients with Visionary iGaming.
On the whole, this company offered a chance for players all around the world to enjoy live table games for a brief period in history. This also seems to have included US players, which might explain why they eventually had no future in the industry. Their Curacao licence didn’t simply carry them far enough, especially as nowadays the US casinos and jurisdiction is opening up with their own set of licences. And for the rest of the world, there are plenty of other options too.
A bit of extra information, don’t confuse this has-been company with Gaming Laboratories International. Whilst the name is somewhat similar, the latter is a testing agency for international casino companies. And is considered one of the best in the field, whereas Global Gaming Labs is a company that has disappeared into the winds of history long ago.
