PartyGaming Origins
PartyGaming was founded in 1997 as a network of gaming sites operated from the Caribbean (StarLuck, PlanetLuck, etc). The group took the name, iGlobalMedia, and eventually changed their name in 2005 to PartyGaming. Their inaugural poker site, PartyPoker.com, was launched in 2001. In 2006, PartyGaming launched an integrated platform with a central cashier. In the month between the passage and the signing into law of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA) PartyGaming pulled out of the US market. At the time, they were the biggest online poker site in the world based on number of players and cash game revenue. In 2009, they agreed to pay the US government $105 million in order to avoid prosecution. PartyGaming has operated continuously outside of the US market. Many expect to see them return to the US upon normalization of poker laws.
The Bwin.Party brands now include Party Casino and bwin Casino, PartyPoker and bwin Poker, Foxy Bingo, PartyBingo and Gioco Digitale (bingo for the Italian market) sportsbetting through bwin, PartyBets and Gamebookers, financial spread betting through InterTrader, and the World Poker Tour with events around the globe and broadcasts into 150 countries and territories.
