About the Company
Spin Games is a land-based and interactive casino games developer located in Reno, Nevada. The company was founded in 2012 by Australian and now an American citizen, Kent Young who first came to Las Vegas as VP of research and development for Aristocrat in 2001, just as multiline video bonus slots were making a wave in US casinos.
The company started out supplying big names like IGT with content in the early days and by the next year, they had introduced an RGS (remote games server) dubbed the ROC (robust online content). The name alone tells the direction his company was headed.
The ROC console allows the use of HTML5 game engines for delivery to mobile or desktop devices and the company says the feature-rich results look and play the same as their games on land based devices.
Game servers handle things like random number generation - Spin Games RNG is certified by GLI - game management, bet limits, multiplayer support, statistics, game histories, etc., and with a seamless integration API (Application Programming Interface) the ROC can be easily 'bolted on' to nearly any gaming platform for delivery.
The ROC also allows the download and storage of additional approved games and supports multiple game engines.
Another product the company has deployed is MIG™ (Multi-player Interactive Gaming). This technology allows players in a casino to use their own mobile devices to bet on blackjack, baccarat, or poker. All connected devices, including a master display widescreen, share a display. It can also be used for tournaments or even social gaming.
One of the company's most exciting innovations is multi-layered 3D gaming in HTML5 (3ML3/ML3). The proprietary tech creates an illusion of depth on a gaming screen in real time. This is reportedly the first product that is able to create 3D animated displays in a browser without the need for any additional program or a special viewer. The coding is lean enough that it works on mobile as well as desktop devices.
Availability of Games
For US players in the regulated jurisdiction of New Jersey, their games are available at Golden Nugget online and Sugar House online casinos. In November 2017, Gibraltar-based mobile platform and game aggregator for regulated markets, Nekta announced that they had signed Spin Games to their Evolve Lite aggregator. The games appeared first at Videoslots casino before being rolled out to further partners.
In a development that helps the Nektan deal along and opens far more doors, the company was granted a Remote Operating License for the United Kingdom by the Gambling Commission there in November as well. This adds to multiple international licenses already granted.
Upon review, we find some 40 games in the company's portfolio. The lion's share of them are slots with a count of 28. There are 7 video poker titles in their Video Poker Royale suite, as well as 4 video bingos and a video keno game.
American Goldrush is a 3x5 video slot with 243 ways to win and a minimum 50 coin bet. It has wild symbols on the three central reels and a random 'wild dynamite' mechanic that can turn any combination of reels 2, 3, and 4 into a wild column. A miner panning for gold can appear on reels 1 and 5, triggering a picking bonus. Any three or more dynamite icons trigger 8-12 free games with 2x multipliers. Free spins can be retriggered.
The background art is reminiscent of souvenir paintings from the Reno area circa 1950. Symbol art is fairly simple but well shaded with lighting effects when winning symbols are animated. Game sound effects include a mild ticking as reels come to a stop and brief musical expressions when important symbols land.
When 3 or more dynamite symbols appear a rousing 1800s western ballroom piano song begins along with the announcement of the bonus prize. We can't tell if it was sheer luck or if there are more wild symbols on the reels during the free games but were able to experience a big win celebration of spewing coins, etc.
The entire slot suite was diverse in number of pay lines and feature mechanics with a wide range of themes including the obligatory Egyptian, Greek, and Diamond/Fruit themes but most of the titles were unique such as Flying Horse, Filipino Beauty, Triple Bombshell Betties, and Queen of the Skies - each with their own allure and attractive feature games.
Spin Games looks like a very solid company with well-considered strategies that seem to be paying off as they expand their commercial footprint from the "biggest little city in the world" to the far reaches of the globe. All of their online slots use land-based slot maths and so far they've built at least a dozen different game engines to construct new and refreshing games on top of quickly, yet each of their real money slots has it's own unique character and feel due to the maths and mechanics.
