Spike Games was launched in 2014, with the original staff having background in other casino game developers of the time. As is typical for these years, the company was heavily invested in mobile gaming. They applied and received a UK Gambling Commission licence quite early on, which is no surprise as the company itself was situated in the UK.

Their goal was to create a small number of unique games, something that would stand out in a backdrop of thousands of similar online slots. They also had their own platform and servers, which allowed other gaming companies to distribute slots through Spike Games. It does seem like the company also designed and built slots for other companies.

Besides normal online slots, the team tried their hands in fish shooting games, and specialised branded slots. In 2018 the company was looking to expand into the world of crypto gaming, however it seems that they ran out of steam as shortly after they stopped publishing news, and their website became unresponsive.

Make note that Spike Games is no longer active. However, we will still have a look at what they produced, and what sort of legacy the company left behind.

Online Slots

It seems that Spike Games only ever released a handful of slots, averaging just one or two games for every year of operation. This sounds like a really low figure, and we do suspect they spent a lot more time designing and producing games for 3rd parties.

From what we can gather, the following were popular Spike Games slots:

First one of these slots is today found under the FunFair brand, which happens to be another company that isn’t in operation anymore. At least not in its original form. Regardless, none of the games are playable anymore.

It’s hard to say anything about the quality of the slots, other than that they did come with setups that different from the standard. This means that the reels and rows were extended, often to quite large proportions. At the same time, the mechanics for gathering wins tended to use methods other than paylines. The games were quite heavy on special features too, from jackpots to bonus spins, shuffles, and more.

Interpretation

Whilst Spike Games might have had big dreams and plenty of plans, the company seems to have simply run out of steam. They vanished without a trace around 2018, leaving behind only an abandoned Facebook page.

The games didn’t last much longer either, and none of them are available for play anymore. It does seem like Spike Games hardly made a difference, and definitely didn’t leave a legacy.
