The World of Oz is a new take on the classic Wizard of Oz movie we have come to know and love. One thing I first noticed was the generic looking theme that is obviously not licensed by the movies owners. You will see characters that resemble Dorothy, the Scarecrow and the Tin Man, but it’s clear that this is not the real deal.
This is nothing new in the slot world though. Popular names and brands are ripped off all the time. And if there’s one thing I have learned, it’s that a slots theme and name don’t necessarily make the slot good or bad.
While I would like to see real characters and a genuine theme, I am happy with good game play and decent features. World of Oz does deliver on both thankfully.
World of Oz Rules
World of Oz is a 5-reel slot with 50 pay lines. All aspects of betting are adjustable and allow for complete customization. Coin values range from $0.01, up to $0.25. Up to 10 coins are allowed to be played per line putting the maximum bet at $125. With a max of $2.50 per line. Pay lines are adjustable as well which means you can play from 1, up to 50.
Auto play buttons allow you to play a set number of games in a row using your own parameters without having to touch a thing.
World of Oz Symbols
The standard symbols are 9 through Ace with 3 of a kind of more needed to make a winning combination.
The generic characters are truly some of the worse looking I’ve seen, but I won’t get into detail on this. It’s not about the looks I keep telling myself. A cheap looking Dorothy, white slippers, another generic looking rip off of Gilda the magic Princess. And finally a flying monkey make up the theme based symbols.
There are also some drop icons represented by the Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Lion. These symbols will have arrows on them during the game play. When 3 or more of these make a winning combination, the drop icon symbols will disappear and the symbols above them will fall in their place allowing additional symbols to hit the reels. This adds the potential to make more wins on that same spin.
The wild symbol is the witch. All wins using the wild during normal game play are multiplied by 5.
Free Spins
The weird looking green head acts as the scatter. It has a circle of arrows on it, to make it easier to find. When 3 or more of these land anywhere on the reels you are awarded 12 free spins. During free spins the wild symbol will turn into a 10x multiplier when used to create a win.
You can win 7 more free spins during this bonus round when you get 3 or more scatters.
Looks Aren’t Everything
By now you know that I’m not a big fan of this slots design. It’s definitely not one of the greatest looking slots I have played. But, it still plays well and the bonus features completely make up for the lack of creativity and effort put into the designs.
I managed some pretty big wins when the wild symbol landed and even won as much as $7,700 on one spin. I’m not saying you will win the same, but it’s just an example of what makes this slot good enough to play.
