The Sword and the Grailby Play'n Go

Play’n Go is dipping again in the deep well of Arthurian myth with The Sword and the Grail, a game set in Camelot and detailing the search for the Holy Grail and the steamy love triangle that happened at the same time.
King Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot, and Merlin accompany the player on this adventure of uncovering the most valuable treasure in all of Christendom.
A short time after their previous Arthurian adventure, Rise of Merlin, the developer is back at it and giving Merlin and the gang another go.
Theme
Play’n Go is obviously no stranger to King Arthur and the medieval England setting and so this entry in what we can now probably call a series is totally on point.
The background…
…is a huge castle with tons of small flags and big towers.
In the game window, we see the actual round table and animated fire pits while dragon emblem tapestries are hung on the walls.
The reels…
…are populated by Merlin and everyone’s favorite pre-Tinder love triangle – Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot.
The low paying symbols are lovely medieval coins stamped with card numbers.
And of course, the grail itself. The mythical artifact that many have tried but all have failed to find is right here. It serves as the wild.
Betting Options and Functions
The action happens on a standard 5x3 grid area and there are 20 fixed paylines which are configured as one meaning there are no coin size and coin number selections.
The search for the grail can begin for 10 cents, but punters can choose to put in much more if they choose. As much as $100, in fact.
Like all games from this developer, the title is mobile friendly and features quick spin for those with limited time on their disposal.
Volatility is very high, as with any adventure of this kind, so punters be advised.
Special Features
The main feature of this excursion in the Middle Ages is to become the King of Knights.
And how does one do that?
By collecting swords, of course.
If the punter manages to collect three, they are transported to a special magical land that gamblers in the know call “extra spins”.
During extra spins…
…the player gets to collect even more swords. There is a five-stage process with each sword collected helping to attain a higher rank.
The rank is what determines the value of multiplier wilds that appear during the mode. At stage one it’s 2x, then 5x, 10x, and finally once 18 bonus symbols are collected it’s a staggering x100.
The multipliers can appear in the base game too, but with much lesser frequency.
Our Take
Arthurian myths are clearly fertile ground for games. The theme is timeless, but the graphics and the features are totally modern.
For those who just can’t get enough of swords, shields, suits of armor, and magical artifacts this is a great way to spend your slot playing time.
