Doom of Egyptby Play'n Go
Screenshots
It’s back to Egypt yet again. We’re not sure why slot developers like Egypt so much but they sure do as there is a glut of these offerings available. And it’s not stopping as more games are released all the time.
Maybe they’re just history buffs or more likely Ancient Egypt just has a very distinctive and strong aesthetics that simply scream mystery, danger, and excitement.
What better things to call upon when it comes to real money gambling, right?
Theme
And here’s an offering by the illustrious Play’n Go tapping into that same Egyptian well (or should we say tomb) once again.
It’s nothing you haven’t seen before. Dark blue is the prevailing color suggesting a night time tomb raiding expedition. The tomb itself is rendered as a row of columns adorned with hieroglyphs and so is the background of the reels. Mystical inscriptions or just gibberish? We’re no Egyptologists so we have no idea but it does look the part.
The symbols are also familiar and not just the card numbers that make up the low paying ones. The high paying suite consists of the chthonic deity Anubis as the top paying and several magical mummies with glowing eyes as his entourage.
All in all, it’s a well-worn image. One look at the graphics of this game and you will immediately go “that’s Egypt, all right”.
Betting Options and Functions
Things remain familiar when it comes to the options this title offers too. A 5x3 game with 10 paylines, so that’s all very standard.
The punters can choose to set the coin value, the number of coins, and the number of lines that are in play in the game independently so that gives a nice control of the overall bet level for people who like the most flexibility.
Autoplay is here as well, with all standard settings you can expect from it.
Special Features
The main special feature is tied to the scatter symbol (represented by a golden scarab, what else?) which pays out winnings but also triggers the extra spin mode when three or more appear on the reels.
Ten spins are awarded with a small twist in the form of expanding symbols being added to the game. At the beginning of the mode, one type will be selected to become expanding thus increasing the odds for a win.
Our Take
There is certainly no shortage of Egypt-inspired games out there. Play’n Go themselves are known to dip in this pool often such in of their previous releases Rise of Dead but other developers have too like Pragmatic Play with John Hunter and the Scarab Queen.
So is something different this time? Not really. The offering is as standard as they come both in theme and in execution. If you’re a fan of Egypt, you’ll like it. If not, it’s still a well-crafted game but not an essential experience.
