About the Company
Platipus Ltd. is a game developer headquartered in Douglas, Isle of Man. The company was founded in 2014 and had already claimed the production of over 100 titles before 2018. The company is headed up by Netherlander, Martijn Peters and most of their development seems to occur at a game development lab in Ukraine.
In addition to real money play HTML5 casino games, they also create Flash products for social casinos with game apps available on Facebook and elsewhere. They were able to announce in August 2016 that their game random number generator (RNG) had been certified by iTechLabs complying with UKGC technical standards and was also approved for the jurisdictions of Italy, AGCC, Denmark, IOM, Malta, and Gibraltar.
The game servers are certified giving them an edge over many social game providers. Their proprietary social network platforms are universal which allows new customers to launch a game on social media in a matter of hours.
As of late 2017, we find 16 HTML5 games available for real money play with at least that many more "coming soon". Most of the iconic obligatory themes are covered including Cleo's Gold for Egyptian, Fairy Forest for fantasy, Crocoman for adventure, Juicy Spins for a fruit game, Lucky Dolphin for underwater fun, and Mistress of Amazon because it's a great concept.
The latter loaded in HTML5 on PC in well under a minute. The pay table offers 3 screens of scrolling information on a single page and describes wilds, scatters, a bonus wheel, and six possible outcomes of spinning it. All reel symbols are clearly shown with their values for landing 3, 4, or 5 on a payline, and the 40 winning lines are brightly illustrated in contrasting magenta and yellow making the patterns very easy to notice.
Mistress of Amazon is a five reel game with 4 reel positions each. The graphics are vibrant and richly colored with no attention to detail missing. The wild symbols are segmented, stacked, and sticky and always covers at least two positions on the reel. The scattered diamond icons seem to be cut like fine jewels, capturing and refracting light with great realism.
Cleo's Gold loaded a little more slowly, but also in less than a minute. Again the colors were vibrant with excellent light and shadow rendering. Between the paytable and the separate game info display, there were no confusing options and it was easy to anticipate features. The pay tables and a quick feel for the games indicated low to medium volatility. The free games feature gives players the option to choose 5, 10, or 15 free spins that can be retriggered. With 5 games all wilds are sticky; with 10 they expand, and with 15 stacked wilds are added to the reels.
Many of the other games were equally well done with great soundtracks and brief sound effects for all but feature wins. This lent to anticipation building and added to the excitement, especially with sticky wild respins.
In a very short time Platipus Ltd. has ramped up high-quality production in two verticals and it's nice to see their games being picked up for real money play with aggregators such as Slotegrator offering them in their unified API. The features were varied enough that we hope they will continue innovating rather than simply clone new titles by draping new images over previous machines and calling it a new title. Thankfully, with all of the competition out there these days, we don't see that as often as we did in the early days of online single-provider casinos when even the top developers would fudge.
We look forward to seeing all of the "coming soon" HTML5 titles hit the open market along with whatever they come up with next. While the games so far are not what we would call breathtaking or spectacular, they are nice games that we would play - when we find bigger bets, greater volatility, and the ability to choose our own number of lines to stake.
