Far eastern motifs are very popular in the igaming world. One need just look at any new slot listings to see a ton of different games inspired by the myths and legends of the Asian continent.
This trend is now being continued by developer Leander Games and their Balls of Furry.
It’s a game all about dragons and balls. Some might say it’s a game about dragon balls – but we won’t. For copyright reasons.
Featuring expanding wilds, respins, and a bonus game inspired by pachinko, it’s quite a wild ride.
Theme
Opening the game, you will be greeted by a very large dragon guarding the reels. The reels themselves are high atop a large mountain range. It’s a dramatic sense of scale and very epic.
Low paying symbols are card numbers in the style of Chinese characters while the high-paying ones are three different mythical warriors. In the shape of a warthog, lizard, and tiger.
It all recalls classic anime series from the 90s, especially one which will remain unnamed.
There’s also koi fishes and even a Buddha.
It’s a veritable who’s who of famous symbols from Asian cultures.
Betting Options and Functions
Everything takes place on a 5x3 grid with 20 fixed paylines. Fast play is available which will make the reels spin much faster but will have no effect on the actual outcomes.
Autoplay can be used to automate spins as it can be in most modern offerings.
Punters can choose to stake as little as 40 cents on a single spin or go all the way into high-roller territory will a full €80.
Special Features
This is where the game really shines because it’s packed with different exciting and engaging features.
First off, there is the expanding koi wild. It’s the famous fish that swims in decorative ponds (and is also magical). When any wild appears on the screen, all wilds will expand.
And not only that but the reels will respin. And the respins continue if more wilds appear.
Additionally…
…it’s possible to spend some cash to lock the reels yourself if the number of stacked wild reels is less than 3.
The game then progresses normally, until the third reel becomes wild.
Buddha himself appears sometimes randomly during the base game and rewards players by adding a wild reel, or some balls for the dragon pot.
Speaking of the dragon pot…
…it’s here where the game’s main and most exciting feature begins.
During the base game, dragon symbols can appear and each will deposit one ball into the pot.
When 18 balls are collected, the feature will start.
A pachinko-style screen appears with the 18 balls falling from the top and through the pegs to the bottom. Punters can choose to launch the balls from one of three positions.
The goal is to win cash awards and to do so the players must get the balls to fall into the slots at the bottom. It’s a 5x5 grid and when it’s filled vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, the corresponding amount on the line is won.
Our Take
A very interesting game taking inspirations from the classics of Asian myths and supercharging them with a very interesting and very involved special bonus game.
There’s a lot to recommend here for those who are looking for a slot experience like no other. It’s definitely innovative and also very fun.
So why not see if you can collect all the balls and win some great prizes?
