Baccarat is a cards game where players may bet on either the Player hand or the Banker hand. As will be seen, the rules are slightly complicated but suffice to say they favor the Banker. Player bets are paid even money and bets on Banker are paid 1 to 1 minus 5% commission. The odds still favor the Banker hand due to certain rules governing the delivery of a 3rd card, or hit which differ for Player and Banker hands. It is not necessary to know the intricate rules of the game to play online as the software handles all decisions after a user decides upon bet amount and which hand to bet upon. Bets may also be placed alone, or in addition on the Tie area. This bet pays 8:1 and has a poor return to player ratio in the mid 80% range.
The object of the game is to guess whether the Player or Banker hand will be closer to 9. Scoring of the hand is accomplished by adding the cards and disregarding the first digit if the hand count exceed 9. 10 value cards are counted as zero. The hand closest to 9 wins.
