Dragons are a permanent fixture of popular entertainment. From a very popular show about a game and a throne to countless fantasy books lining the shelves of your local bookstore.
Different cultures have treated them differently. In the West dragons are symbol of evil and corruption and they like nothing more than to hoard gold and incinerate anyone foolish enough to enter their lair.
Eastern mythologies take a different view…
…here dragons are embodiments of natural elements, less evil and more primal in nature. Though still not to be trifled with.
Such is that case with Ganapati’s offering Power of Elements.
Theme
As many other titles from this developer, Power of Elements also takes liberal inspiration from Japanese video games.
This time, it’s role playing games specifically that the software provider is taking its cues from.
Imagined as a series of fierce boss battles against fearsome dragons…
…punters will need to form winning combinations to damage the dragon’s HP bar.
So far, so Final Fantasy.
As with most games from this company, you can expect top-notch graphics and sounds. The dragon is at the top of the reels and is fully animated, occasionally swooping down to attack you.
There are five dragons…
…and each comes with its own stage. The entire background will change to reflect the dragon’s element – Wood, Earth, Water, Fire, or Metal.
This results in a game with an extremely dynamic presentation that puts most other slot titles to shame.
The feel here is more like the playing a premium mobile video game than a gambling offering.
Betting Options and Functions
Befitting an innovative effort like this, the classic reels and paylines are gone. Instead, it’s a cluster win system. Five more symbols touching horizontally or vertically initiate a win.
And it’s cascading too…
…so winning gems get removed and new ones fall in from the top.
Just like in most cluster systems the real objective is to form long chains of cascades that end up with massive wins.
Of course, this is a modern offering so autospin is present if you’d rather just marvel at the background animation and let the game do its thing.
Special Features
There aren’t any extra spins or traditional special features like wheels and pick games.
Instead:
The entire base game has a persistent advancement system. As players win, the dragon’s HP is damaged.
Once it reaches zero, that dragon is defeated and the next one takes its place.
Dragons are weak to two elements and it’s winning with these elements (in the shape of colored gems) is what damages them.
There is an interesting feature…
…in which the payout values of the symbols actually change with the active dragon. The highest paying gem is the one the dragon is most weak to.
This doesn’t change anything math and probability-wise as there is always the same number of high-paying and low-paying items.
But it is a nice twist and an obvious nod the Japanese role playing games this title is inspired by.
Defeating a dragon doesn’t just change the scenery…
…it also awards a treasure chest containing an instant money prize as well as random multiplier that will be applied to it.
Our Take
Power of Elements is another great entry into Ganapati’s portfolio. As always with this team, the graphics are high-quality, and the features are innovative. It totally measures up to previous efforts like Blood Moon and Shiba Inu.
If you’re looking for something new and unlike most offerings on the market, then give this one a chance.
They call it “immersive Japanese gaming” but we call it – just plain good fun.
