Foxium

Foxium is an online casino game production studio based in Tallinn, Estonia. The company was founded in 2015 and is headed up by Sweden's Åke André. It's a fast growing company who has already seen their unique games deployed on such well-known casinos as Mr Green, Prospect Hall, LeoVegas, and bet365 along with rising stars such as the UKGC licensed Dream Jackpot Casino. All of the Foxium game and related software development is done in house.

Under the direction of co-founder Daniil Sanders, Senior software engineer, Ksenia Komarova and Senior 3D artist, Julia Jakovleva, Foxium builds all of their games in HTML5 so they play as well on mobile devices like smart phones and tablets, as they do on laptops and desktop computers, regardless of the operating system. There is no software to download as the games play instantly in any modern browser.

Foxium launched their first two games on the Odobo platform in a record six weeks. The Gibraltar-based Odobo was responsible for helping launch Foxium's Big Time Journey and Stereo Miami as well as legendary games for other developers such as Castle Builder.

Software and Games

After Odobo, Foxium inked a deal with NYX Interactive in order to deliver their unique video slots to a wider market with the potential to reach 200 NYX:OGS customers.

2017 saw the unveiling of four new games, beginning with the April release of The Odd Forest on the NYX:OGS. Like all of their games, the theme revolves around a story. In The Odd Forest, players follow a pixie named Elvia, as she fights to protect the forest she calls home. The game is feature-rich with a multi-level progressive bonus game. Beyond superior graphics and audio, Foxium's mastery may be in how seamlessly they are able to interweave gameplay with the story character's narrative, creating a rich gaming experience.

With the exception of June, a month that traditionally sees developers more focused on exhibitions and other industry events, Foxium has released one game per month throughout the spring and summer of 2017. In May, The Lost Riches of Amazon went live on NX:OGS as another story-rich adventure slot. This five-reel, four-row game features the narrative of the heroine, Adele, who takes players on a quest to uncover lost treasures. The slot offers 2048 ways to win; left-to-right and right-to-left. The game has multiple features and the chance to cycle through four bonus games.

Lucky Bakery was the next video slot release, laden with features and an intricately interwoven story line. The game is set in a bakery near the Eiffel Tower and offers a variety of features like stacked wilds, a gambling game, surprise wild multipliers and a 'night mode' change when the game goes into free spins. During free games, a multiplier ladder is activated increasing the value of spins after each non-winning spin. The multiplier isn't reset after a winning combination is achieved, but will climb and stay as high as 6x for the duration of free spins.

Foxium's most recent release as of the time of this review is the zombie-themed, FruitZ. The story here takes players back to the 1940's to help the character, Joi rid her farm of zombie plants. Although the match and mechanics are those of a slot machine, there are no spinning reels on this 5 "reel", 3-row 3D gambling game. One unique feature of FruitZ is the pre-bonus game where players spin to see which of the four meta-games they will play in the bonus round. The most enthralling feature, however, may be the card collection feature. Each time a chest appears on the reels, a card is collected. Each card increases the games RTP for the next 20 spins. When a full set of cards has been collected the return to player percentage is increased by 0.5% for all further spins.

Conclusion

Foxium appears to be a bright and rising star and their game quality speaks for itself. They are also resilient and innovative in the ways of business. After Odobo collapsed due to scaling issues, it didn't take long for Foxium to sign on with NYX, ensuring their unique and innovative games would be available in regulated markets worldwide. While the Foxium footprint in the iGaming industry is still quite small with only a handful of games on the market, the quality, ingenuity, and immersive nature of the games along with brilliant mechanics and math models suggest the company is here to stay and will become a more well-known name in the not too distant future.
