Vikings are everyone’s favorite pillagers, and the subject of many stories, TV shows, movies, and books. We just can’t get enough of swords, axes, warriors and shieldmaidens.

Sensing this need, Booongo has made another game about Vikings, called Vikings Winter. With a wintry theme, 100 paylines and some wild special features, is this the perfect game to cool you off this summer?

Theme

Winter has come to the land of the Vikings, bringing with it biting cold and ice but also a chance to win fame and riches.

In the background of the reels…

…there’s a snowy scene with far off lights from a village and further in the distance are tall forbidding mountains.

At the reels are the standard assortment of card numbers but also a crow, a wolf, and a bear as the middle paying symbols.

The two highest paying ones are a warrior and a shieldmaiden.

And…

…you can’t have a Viking game without ships so the scatter is a large warship.

Betting Options and Functions

This is a 100 payline game with an interesting twist in its format. While it is a six-reel slot, the number of rows varies. It’s a pyramid shape with the first reel having two rows and the last one six making this game an unusual 2-3-3-4-5-6 layout.

The minimum stake on this road to fame and fortune is just 20 cents, while wizened old warriors can throw up to $60 in the ring.

Special Features

This isn’t Booongo’s first attempt at a Viking themed game, as early last year they released Nord’s War which was full of special features some of which were pretty complicated.

This time the developer has decided to rein it in and offer only the tried and true free spins.

…the entire board flips when they activate! Even though there are still 100 paylines the odds are slightly increased because the first reel is the one with 6 symbols.

And what’s always sweet is the fact the bonus games can be retriggered as the ship symbols will keep appearing.

The second special feature is the special reel in the middle which can have stacked wilds on it. If that happens, one other reel will be chosen at random to also become stacked with wilds.

Our Take

Vikings Winter is a worthy entry from the team at Booongo. Second time’s the charm as this offering has just the right balance of special features to good old fashioned fun so punters are not overwhelmed.

Nice graphics, unique twist on the layout and retriggerable extra spins are things that are going to keep players coming back.
