Regardless of where bets are placed on the table, the first roll of the dice is called the come out roll. After the dice have settled on the table they are added together and a marker is placed on the corresponding total with the word, “ON” appearing on it. If the dice have totaled 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 then a point is established. A total of 2, 3, 7, 11, or 12 is called craps and the come out roll is ended. Placing a bet on the Pass line before the come out roll assures the game goes on as long as a 7 or 11 was not rolled.

Now roll again until you make your point and win, or roll a 7 and lose. There are many bets that can be placed before and after the come out roll. Some are called contract bets and must remain on the table until the game round is over. Others are one-time bets and do not affect the game. These bets can be placed before any roll of the dice and most pay high odds as illustrated on the table felt.
