American Rouletteby Vista Gaming
American Roulette is the ball and wheel game with two green Zero spaces, 0/00. Every bet on this game from an inside straight-up bet on a single number to predicting black or red has the same odds, all except one. It is sometimes called the Hail Mary bet, sometimes Fool's Bet, and sometimes it is called the Five Number, Top line, Basket, or First Five bet and it has slightly worse odds for the player at a house edge of 7.89% but it can save your bankroll when you are down to bottom of your stack. Placing a single chip on the intersection of inside/outside spanning 0 and 1 covers 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3 and pays 6:1. This bet is only available on the American game with two Zero spaces. We suggest you play European Roulette so you are never tempted with the worst bet in roulette.
Increasing the green Zero count from one space to two spaces doubles the house advantage over the player. No matter what you do (other than the Fool's Bet) you have twice as many chances to lose. To test this you can place a single chip on every one of the 38 spaces, 1-36, 0, 00 and spin the wheel. The ball will land in one of the wells and you will lose 37 chips, get your original chip back for the winning number plus 35x your bet. You spent 37 chips to win 35 chips. That is the house edge. Cut it in half by playing European Roulette with a single zero!
